The School of Education (SOE) at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) is looking for a new full-time professor in STEM Education and Equity. This position can start as early as January 1, 2025.

About Us: UCR’s SOE is a community that serves undergraduate and graduate students. We are located in a region rich in diversity with many different races, cultures, and languages. Our students are mostly people of color, many are first-generation college students, and a significant number come from working-class backgrounds. Our faculty is the most diverse among all School of Education faculties in the University of California system. We have different areas of focus including higher education, leadership, policy, social and cultural analysis, cognition and learning, school psychology, and special education. Our goal is to prepare teachers and improve educational systems that are fair and supportive of our diverse local communities.

UCR is part of the American Association of Universities (AAU). It’s also recognized for its impact on the community and social mobility. Job Description: We’re seeking a faculty member who is committed to advancing equity and justice in STEM Education. This includes doing research that challenges traditional approaches and promotes fair education for all. Candidates should have expertise in critical theories and methods and a strong foundation in STEM education. We are particularly interested in research on social factors affecting STEM access like identity, race, and socialization. We encourage applicants who incorporate Indigenous or non-dominant perspectives in STEM education.

We welcome applications from candidates with research interests in STEM equity and justice, especially those focusing on our local community in the Inland Empire. Research areas could include Ethno-STEM, critical race theory in STEM Education, culturally inclusive teaching methods for marginalized groups, systemic policies promoting equity in STEM, and the impact of digital learning and AI on fair STEM education.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in a STEM Education field or related area, a strong record of research and publications in STEM education, and experience teaching and advising diverse students. They should also understand educational equity issues and have a commitment to promoting equity through research, teaching, and community engagement.

Preferred qualifications include contributions to STEM education in California’s diverse populations and understanding how racism, gender norms, classism, and ableism affect STEM equity.

Application Process: Assistant level applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, research statement, diversity statement, and three letters of reference. Associate level applicants should include recent teaching evaluations and provide contacts for at least six references.

Salary and Benefits: UCR offers competitive salaries based on rank and experience. The university follows a merit-based evaluation system for faculty advancement.
