What You’ll Do

At Avenues, physical education and health education are combined in our Wellness and Movement (WAM) program. This program focuses on the overall well-being of students—physical, mental, and social. We aim to help students learn about being active and healthy through games, sports, fitness training, and dance. We also cover important topics like mindfulness, emotional intelligence, healthy choices, and relationship skills. Our goal is to help students build confidence and find their interests so they can lead healthy lives.

In this role, you will:

  • Teach wellness and movement classes for students in grades 9-12.
  • Work closely with colleagues to create exciting and effective lessons.
  • Make sure students meet important learning goals by adapting lessons to their needs.
  • Create a positive learning environment where students feel happy and engaged.
  • Build trust with parents and families.

What You’ll Bring

To be a teacher in this department, you should have most of the following:

  • At least 3 years of experience in teaching physical education and health.
  • Good knowledge of exercise science and how the body works.
  • Interest in teaching mindfulness, nutrition, and sexual health.
  • Ability to teach in different places like a gym, fitness studio, and classroom.
  • Strong communication skills for teaching large groups.
  • Creativity and the ability to bring new ideas to life.
  • A desire to keep learning and improving your teaching skills.
  • A strong commitment to helping every student succeed.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field.

More Information

This position is a temporary full-time leave replacement, expected from December 2, 2024, to February 21, 2025. The pay will be based on the length of the assignment.

If hired, your annual pay will be between $72,000 and $110,000, based on your skills and experience. Please note that temporary positions under three months do not include benefits.
