JOB TITLE: Corporate & Commercial Lawyer – Experienced Associate
JOB OBJECTIVE: To offer direction and advice on legal matters in a professional and timely manner.
JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lawyer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a key role in supporting our client’s success by providing comprehensive legal advice and guidance on a broad range of compliance matters within the firm’s Corporate & Commercial Practice Group.
LOCATION: Ikeja, Lagos
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Job Holder will:
Provide expert guidance on company secretarial and corporate governance matters, including board and shareholder meetings, investor relations, and management.
§ Advise clients on complex corporate structures and ensure compliance with relevant legal frameworks, including FinTech and financial services regulations, securities laws, tax laws, and data privacy.
§ Proffer strategic legal advice on project and asset finance transactions, as well as capital market transactions, demonstrating a deep understanding of Capital Market Rules, Codes, and Regulations.
§ Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and finance/security documentation. Proffer legal opinions with minimal supervision while supporting a broad spectrum of business initiatives.
§ Actively lead and engage in due diligence reviews, document preparation, and negotiations for joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions, ensuring full compliance with national and international regulations.
§ Consistently produce scholarly legal articles on “hot topics” within your area of expertise and participate in professional speaking engagements.
§ Proactively drive business development and networking initiatives to grow the department and the firm’s client base.
§ Ensure all departmental billing responsibilities are discharged accurately and in a timely manner.
§ Fulfil all other responsibilities as delegated or assigned by the Partners and Senior Associates.
QUALIFICATIONS:
§ Minimum 5 – 7 years of experience as a qualified lawyer in Nigeria, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
§ Proven experience advising clients on compliance matters in relevant sectors (e.g., FinTech, Payments) is highly desirable.
§ In-depth knowledge of Nigerian regulations and legal frameworks.
§ Concise, precise drafting skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
§ Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
§ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and manage multiple internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
§ Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
§ Interpersonal skills sufficient to establish and maintain credibility as a team lead.
§ Highly focused commercial approach to business alongside strong legal flair.
§ Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and possess the resilience and stamina to sustain performance under pressure.
§ Commitment to keeping abreast of professional, legal, technological, and working practice changes.
